The Rise of A New Breed Of Web2.0 Sites
After Google announced the US$1.6 billion deal with YouTude,
Web2.0 became the talk of the town, some people called this the YouTude phenomenon.
Suddenly everybody is talking about Social Networking (or bookmarking) sites and Internet Marketers are talking about Web2.0 sites. Obviously, we can see more of this Web2.0 sites in the very near future thought there are already quite a lot of them on the Internet.
On the other hand, since there is a demand for Web2.0 sites, we could expect programmers would start selling scripts for creating Web2.0 sites. Of course, right now there are already people selling this type of script & templates and in fact there are free scripts that sites owner/builders could download.
But does it mean they will be successful?
Well, I personally think that maybe a handful of them will go to a higher level, the rest will not reap much.
Reason being most of the people selling this type of scripts & templates are all out to make money, they do not understand the underlying requirement of a successful Web2.0 site.
Those scripts/templates that are floating in the market right now are mainly for social Networking which include video posting, voting, searching, comments box, bookmarking, and etc. But in order for the next generation of Social Networking site to succeed, they have to move to the next level.
Besides the features we see in other popular sites like MySpace, YouTude, Digg, Furl and many more, they have to be more interactive. The subscribers must be given the flexibility in creating their private (or even public) sector and many more add-on depending on individual sites.
For Internet Marketers to build Web2.o sites, it is very different from the people who just like to build a site to socialize. The biggest draw is to make money from AdSense or other form of advertisement. Therefore, the structure of the site is of utmost crucial to the success of the sites.
First, the site must be SEO, ie Search Engine Optimized, the Search Engies (eg.Google, Yahoo) must be able to identify the theme of the site and every section on the sites easily which helps the Search Engines to display the relevant ads. And of course to get indexed by the major search engines faster.
Secondly, the site be reader navigation optimized, that means the site structure will be able to entice the readers to want to click on the link which lead to other section (or pages) of the site which lead to greater exposure of ads. Ease of navigation is a must.
In the present market, there are hundreds, if not thousands of Social Bookmarking sites or Social Networking Sites, but majority of them are very general though we could say that YouTude liked sites the mean focus is videos, but this is not a theme.
As times go by, these general themed sites could not satisfy the subscribers. Then it triggers the birth of the new breed of Social Bookmarking Sites, which is niche focused.
For example, the Dog Social Bookmarking Site, the subscribers are the dog lovers, every articles, video they post, everything they do at this site is related to Dogs. This is like the discussion group or forum but the scope is much wider and it provides much more value to the subscribers. And it will replace the discussion group and forum in the future.
As an Internet Marketer, when comes to building Web2.0 site, a better approach is to create Niche Web2.0 sites and not a one-for-all social bookmarking site.
