The Relationship Between Video and Search Engine in the Future

Everyone knows video is the way to go.

Whether to enrich your website contents or driving traffic to your sites, adding videos to you site or submitting video to the sites like Google Video or YouTube will certainly help to get your sites indexed much faster, improve on your SERP ranking and ultimately driving traffic to you sites.

Right now, the search engine is basing on the keywords (or some call tags) to determine the theme of your sites. Years ago, it based on the meta tag ‘keyword’ where the site owners told the Search Engine what their sites were about, but nowadays, some Search Engines totally ignore the ‘Keyword’ meta tag, they are using their own in-house developed algorithm to decide the theme of the websites.

What the site owner could do is to create keyword rich web content.

For video, the owners have to provide the tag when submit them to the video sites. In a way, the owners have control to a certain extent, but on the hand, it means the owners could ‘play’ with the tags. A not-so-nice word is ‘manipulate’. That also means they could influence the search result.

Similar to the ‘keyword’ meta tag evolution, Search Engines will want to have 100% control of the search result they produce.

With the advancement of technology, accurate voice recognition is not a far fetched dream.

That means, the future Search Engine will ‘listen’ to the narration of the video and come out with their own tag or keyword and index the video accordingly.

What does it mean to the video owner?

Right now, there are people using simple video clips of PowerPoint slides (without narration) to drive traffic to the sites, this method will not work anymore in the future.

On the other hand, video produced with low quality narration, which includes poor pronunciation or very strong accent will produce a challenge to the Search Engine to tag it correctly.

Don’t you think that it is exciting to have a Search Engine which could ‘listen’?

But don’t be surprise we might even have in the future a Search Engine which could recognize human face.

For example, if we enter ‘Bill Gates’ as the search term, all the videos featured Bill Gates will show up in the Search Engine Result Page.
